An 8 team camping hat tournament in a village near Tours. We camped in a campground about 15 minutes walk from the fields. I rode my bike from Tours and was the first person to set up camp on Friday night. Met a couple of frisbee players in the village a bit later and had a few beers with them, before going to the fields for the opening party. That went to about 3am, which was fine because our first game was at 11 on Saturday.

When I woke up Saturday morning I couldn’t find my passport. This was a real worry for me for the next couple of days, but I found it Sunday morning in the hedge next to my sleeping mat when I was packing up the bike. Massive relief!

Our team was good fun, and the games were all quite close. It seemed the skill level was relatively even across the board, which made for fun matchups and competitive games. We played seven games total and won 4 of them, which was a reasonable result. We were the only team to beat the eventual winners.

The Saturday party was well organised. They kept everyone together as teams until after dinner, and had team based games, which helped the team vibe. I was the only non-French speaker at the tournament, so there were often some communication challenges, but everyone understood enough English for me to get by. It was pretty easy for me to find people to chat to when we were having drinks at the campsite or whatever.

I got there by riding my bike about 18km from Tours. I flew into Paris and spent an afternoon and a morning riding around Paris, then caught the TGV to Tours. After the tournament finished I jumped back on the bike and rode about 30km back past Tours along the Loire, and kept going up the Loire for the next few days. The tournament was awesome, and the ride after was awesome as well.
