I responded to a post from Corey Wakefield asking for players for his pickup team, and he gave me a spot on one of the two teams, where I didn’t know a single player. It was awesome. We were a little bit shit, especially since we had different playing styles from around the world, but we were good enough to win some games, and definitely good enough to have an amazing time. I don’t ever remember laughing so much at a tournament.

I think we won 3 of 7 games, including beating the other Stack the Stats team. The on field highlight (lowlight?) was the last point of the last game. We were ahead by a bit, and one of their defenders did a pretty dangerous layout, with no chance of seeing disc, and took himself out. He was passed out on the sideline, so we grabbed the medics and ended the game. Classic Filipino ultimate.

The tournament was much smaller than it had been in 2012 - around 26 teams split into two divisions. We were in the social division, which was the right place for us. It was still well organised and fun, though, and I’d still recommend it for sure.

We stayed at Azumi in Alabang. It had a rooftop pool with a pretty good view, and was fairly close to the fields. Definitely the place to stay. Afterwards a bunch of players from our combined Stack the Stats teams went to Lake Taal for a few days to hang around drinking, playing card games, and playing 3 on 3 basket disc. I still think the Philippines is a bit shit, but it was a great week away.
